Hi! I’m glad you’re here.
Long Way From Home, at its core, is a blog documenting the stem cell transplant process from the perspective of a young adult patient (that’s me).
When I first started researching stem cell transplants, I had a hard time finding continuity in the stories I came across. I read excerpts from people’s experiences, snapshots from specific milestones, and short retrospective articles about the process, but nothing that offered a full accounting of what the experience actually felt like.
The goal of this blog, in large part, is to fill that gap. To offer the kind of continuity I couldn’t find.
Stem cell transplants affect nearly every part of your life. Because of that, I’ll naturally be sharing pieces from every corner of mine as I navigate this journey.
I’ll be sharing the good days, the bad days, and everything in between. I’m still figuring all of this out, but I’m writing as I go in the hope that some of it resonates with others who are facing, or preparing to face, something similar.
You’ll hear me say this often, but I really do mean it: I’d love to hear from you. Whether you found something helpful, relatable, or simply needed a story to connect to, I’d be glad to know you stopped by.
Talk soon.
